Finasteride is a medication that is primarily used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern baldness. It works by blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that is responsible for the enlargement of the prostate gland and the miniaturization of hair follicles in male pattern baldness.
